Christmas seems a long time ago, but as we look back we do so
with thankfulness to God for the privilege of celebrating the birth of
His Son. There was a sense of wonder and awe as some 550 people from
our three parishes gathered on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day
itself.
On Christmas Eve at Nocton
there was excitement and expectation as families packed the church for
the Christingle. "Chirpy" our feathered friend was real cool as he
joined the young ones and listened very quietly and attentively to the
Christmas story. The Christingle has become a very popular service on
Christmas Eve and a good way to start the celebrations. The Midnight Mass at Nocton drew
people from across the parishes and beyond to welcome the Christ Child.
Likewise at Potterhanworth on
Christmas Day a good congregation gathered for the 9.30 celebration,
then across at Branston a
real church full for 11 am. Many children came along and it was a real
delight to see both them and some of their presents which they brought
along for us to see.
Leading up to the big day there were seven school Christmas
presentations in the parishes, and it was very moving to see the
children present the Christmas story through music, readings and
acting. How fortunate we are to have such dedicated teachers who give
their all to our children.
The New Year began with a group service at Branston, a fitting way to
start the year - a time of worship and thanksgiving and anticipation as
we go forward with God.
