MESSAGE FROM THE RECTOR - June 2004
"But they all began to make excuses..." Luke 14:18
Don't make an excuse - make a commitment.
Jesus told the story of a man who prepared a banquet and invited many guests. One by one they made excuses for not coming. "I have bought a field...", "I have just bought five yoke of oxen...", "I just got married...", so the host of the banquet said, "Not one of those men who were invited will get a taste of my banquet." Luke 14:24
You may think you have a good excuse for saying "no" to God but is it worth missing your destiny for? CS Lewis said,"To step out of God's will is to step into nowhere."
When God speaks to you and gives you definite direction - that's the moment of truth! At that very moment, you either make a commitment or you make an excuse. Right there and then you're deciding your future. What has God been asking you to do? Are you afraid to do it?
Fear usually comes dressed up as an excuse. Every time you pull back from a God-given opportunity because of fear, you lay another brick in the wall that will ultimately keep you from reaching your life's goal. If God has told you to do something, just take His hand and start moving forward. You can't control the wind, but by His grace you can adjust the sails to reach where you want to go. Opportunity is only a visitor; don't assume it will be back tomorrow; move while the door is open!
